Regular Meeting Fiscal Courtroom 6:30 P.M.
Present: Donald Morton, Marilyn Daniel, Dan Brown
Additional Education Committee Members Present (former commissioners serving on the Education Committee): Peggy Carter Seal, Helen Rentch
Absent: Sheila Harris (recovering from surgery), Lauren Graves (sick), Gayle Franklin
Approval of December 3 minutes postponed until February meeting.
Election of HRC officers postponed until February meeting.
Financial Report: Balance of $1,952.91 Expenditures: None Income: $0.15
Correspondence: Woodford County Roots and Heritage Festival, Inc. letter noting the details of the 30th annual Martin Luther King Day Breakfast on Monday, January 18, 2016 at First Christian Church.
Superintendent Scott Hawkins of Woodford County Public Schools and Chief Academic Officer Jimmy Brehn were in attendance. Superintendent Hawkins and Mr. Brehn discussed and answered questions regarding the District Improvement Plan (approved in December 2015) to address closing the achievement gap, the importance of reading to young children (0 – 3 year olds) by parents and siblings, pre-school program, minority teacher ratio and recruitment, etc. The meeting was called to order after the presentation. It was determined that in light of current commissioner vacancies we did have a quorum.
New Business: The Martin Luther King Breakfast was discussed. Marilyn Daniel made a motion that the HRC purchase an English/Spanish one-page HRC advertisement in the MLK Breakfast program for $100 and a table for 8 at the breakfast for $120. Donald Morton seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Next meeting will be held February 4, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. in the Community Room. The meeting will begin with Open Records Act training followed by the regular monthly meeting. At our regular monthly meeting, Rev. Green will be invited to present on a Reconciliation Project.
