Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission (HRC)

December 7, 2018 Minutes

Regular Meeting Fiscal Courtroom, Woodford County Courthouse 6:30 P.M.

Present: Mary Nehring, Sherry Brown, Marilyn Daniel, Daniel Brown, Mary Raglin

Absent: Donald Morton, Annete Muniz

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by D. Brown, Secretary. Upcoming new Commissioners Kyle Fannin, Darlene Jackson, and Bruce Batman were in attendance and introduced.

Approval of the Agenda: Daniel and S. Brown made motions to amend the agenda adding Martin Luther King Breakfast and motion passed.

Education (Scholarship Committee): No Report

Fairness Ordinance Committee: No Report

Old Business:

Imagination Library Book Program: No Report

Howard Complaint: Daniel gave an update of the Howard complaint with actions thus far. Daniel assisted Ms. Howard in filing a grievance with the Housing Authority. After much discussion, it was decided that Daniel would draft a letter outlining some deficiencies in the new Housing Authority grievance process. Daniel shared a draft letter outlining grievance deficiencies and will send an additional draft letter to the Commission for suggestions before sending the final letter to the Housing Authority.

V-M-Woodford County HRC Funds: D. Brown volunteered to request budgeted operating funds from Midway and Woodford County.

Woodford County High School Gay-Straight Alliance: D. Brown reported that the Gay-Straight Alliance operated a water station at the Woodford Humane Society Iron Horse Marathon. All high schools were on time for the early morning event and enjoyed participating. Upcoming Alliance projects include painting a high school bathroom with an outer space theme. D. Brown volunteered to provide pizza for the painting event.

New Business:

Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast 2019: D. Brown and Daniel made a motion that the HRC purchase n add for $50 in the program and a table at the event for $120. Motion passed.

Complaint Intake Form and Protocol: Daniel and S. Brown made a motion to table the item until the next meeting due to time. Motion passed.

Versailles City Resolution 2017-5: D. Brown reported that Versailles City Council passed a resolution declaring that Versailles is an Open and Affirming City for the LGBT community. Discussion followed that although this was a step forward, there is no complaint process if discrimination should occur.

Swearing in of New Commissioners: D. Brown volunteered to contact Judge Coyle in order to have New Commissioners sworn in on February 1, 2018 at the beginning of the regular monthly meeting.

Next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 in the Fiscal Courtroom of the Woodford County Courthouse. The April 12, 2018 meeting is scheduled to be held in Midway City Hall.
