Regular Meeting Fiscal Courtroom, Woodford County Courthouse 6:30 P.M.
Present: Jorge Espinoza, Kyle Fannin, Mary Nehring, Daniel Brown, Mary Raglin
Guest: Robin Espinoza
Absent: Tim Middleton, Darlene Jackson
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by Vice Chair Nehring.
Approval of the Agenda: Nehring and Fannin made motions to approve the agenda and motion passed.
Approval of December 6, 2019 Minutes: Brown and Fannin made motions to approve minutes and motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report : HRC $1662.58
Imagination Library $3231.00
Fannin and Brown made motions to add new officers names to HRC checking account.
Thank You Service Gifts for Sheila Harris, Donald Morton, Sherry Brown: Nehring volunteered to secure $30 gift cards. Nehring and Fannin made motion and motion was approved.
Debit Card/Web Site and Email Account Bills: Fannin will secure a debit card in order to pay website, email, and other account bills.
By-Law Ammendment to Include Electronic Attendance: Topic was tabled until April meeting. Brown also suggested the attendance policy be slightly revised to correlate with meeting every two months.
Woodford County High School Liaisons to the Human Rights Commission: Fannin has secured a liaison and Brown has contacted Amy Schwarz, GSA high school sponsor.
Woodford County High School African American Reading Scores: Middleton was not present to discuss.
2019 Martin Luther King Breakfast: The breakfast was well attended and enjoyed. Peggy Carter Seal who has been the lead with the Human Rights Commission Scholarship notified Mary Nehring that she would like to step down from these duties. Mary Nehring suggested we add the item to the April meeting agenda.
2019 Twilight Festival on August 24, 2019, 3:00 – 9:00 PM: After some discussion, the Comission decided to have a tent at the upcoming Twilight Festival. Brown and Nehring made a motion to approve registration fee. Motion passed. Fannin volunteered to submit registration to the Chamber of Commerce.
Midway 2019 Yearly Event/HRC Information Distribution: After some discussion, the Commission decided to try and attend the June Mid-Summer Night event. Raglin volunteered to contact Mayor Vandegrift about the possibility.
Yearly Meeting Dates: The Commission agreed on the following 2019 Meeting Dates and Times:
April 11 – 6:00 PM Orientation for New Commissioners with a light supper followed by regular monthly meeting to be held in the Community Room.
June 6 – 6:30 PM; Midway City Hall
August 1 – 6:30 PM; Fiscal Courtroom
October 3 – 6:30 PM; Fiscal Courtroom
December 5 – 6:30 PM; Fiscal Courtroom
Woodford Sun Article: Fannin volunteered to contact the Woodford Sun about a possible feature article on the Human Rights Commission.
Training of New Commissioners in April with Light Supper: The Commission agreed for Brown to conduct a brief orientation session before the April meeting at 6:30 PM. The Commission agreed to invite the possible Woodford County High School Liaisons.
Funding Request from Versailles, Midway, and Woodford County: Fannin volunteered to contact the three governments thanking them for past funding and ask the Commission be included in the 2019 – 2020 budgets.
Next meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the Community Room of the Woodford County Courthouse.
