The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission, held on April 21,2022, was called to order at 6:35 pm by Commission Chairperson Tim Middleton.

Commission members present: Cindy Batts, Tim Middleton, Cierra Spalding, Jorge Espinoza, and Joann Muir

Commission members absent: Kyle Fannin, Chris Wright, and Elizabeth Turley,

Comments/Questions from members of the public: None present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion was made by Jorge, and seconded by Cierra, for the approval of the minutes of the 2/3/22 meeting as presented. Motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Report was distributed by treasurer Kyle Fannin by email. There is a balance in the checking account of $5037.59, which includes the account for the Imagination Library in the amount of $2520.

Motion was made by Cindy and seconded by Cierra to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion passed.

Kyle informed the commission by email that he has sent invoices to the government agencies that have not given their payments yet. No action required unless no payment is received.

Cierra was able to set up a new Google account for the commission which includes a new Google voice account. The new phone number for the commission is (859) 379-8136. Joann moved and Jorge seconded that we stop payments on the old Google account so that we do not get charged for the one that we can no longer use. Motion carried.

Discussion of changing bank accounts: Cindy gave Tim a copy of our charter and the minutes where Kyle was appointed as a member of the commission (she is still looking for a copy of the minutes where Tim was appointed) so that they will be able to make changes to our current bank account.

Discussed the Imagination Library. Talked about the best way to continue with this mission. Cindy will talk with Dan about either taking it and the money over and not having the commission involved directly, or Dan allowing the commission to move forward with it without his involvement. Discussed possible ways to move forward with the Imagination Library if this is the decision. Cindy moved and Cierra seconded that, regardless of Dan’s decision, the money for the Imagination Library be moved to a different account for better tracking. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS:

None discussed outside of finances.

NEW BUSINESS:

Discussed Twilight Festival that will be held in Versailles on September 24th. Cierra moved and Jorge seconded that we spend the money to reserve a table at the festival soon. We will talk closer to time as to who will be able to sit at the table and when. Discussed spending some of our money to get books for elementary school age children to give away at the festival. Tabled this for next meeting.

Discussed going to the Midway Fall Festival that will be held on September 17th and 18th. This is the weekend before the Twilight Festival. Will talk more about this at the next meeting.

Discussed getting business cards and other things (pens, bags, etc.) to give away at the festivals. It is unsure if these would be ready by the festivals, but we will work on it.

Discussed getting t-shirts for the commissioners to wear at the festivals to show who we are. Discussed possible conflict of interest of using Cierra’s company for this. Will discuss this with Libby as she is a lawyer. Table this for next meeting.

Tim reminded the commissioners that we need a new member that is designated for the county. Each commissioner to think of people that might be good to have join us and let Tim know of any names.

NEXT MEETING: Thursday June 2, 2022 at the M.U.S.T. building in Versailles.

Motion for adjournment was made by Joann and seconded by Cierra. Motion passed.

Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Batts

Secretary
