Minutes of Meeting
July 7,2022
The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission, held on 7/7/22, was called to order at 6:45 pm by Commission Chairperson Tim Middleton.
Commission members present: Cindy Batts, Tim Middleton, Cierra Spalding, and Joann Muir
Commission members absent: Kyle Fannin, Elizabeth Turley, Jorge Espinoza, and Chris Wright
Comments/Questions from members of the public: None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: delayed until next meeting as Cindy did not send them until shortly before the meeting.
TREASURER’S REPORT: No report made as treasurer was not available.
Discussed Imagination Library. A community partner is working on this project. Will discuss giving them the funds that we have to further the project along.
OLD BUSINESS:
Discussed new brochures and business cards. Looked at many of the older brochures and cards from the Commission and discussed changes that could be made. It was decided that the new brochure will be a ¼ page front and back. On one side will be a small section of the Commission and contact info in English. On the other side, the same information will be presented in Spanish. A “QR Code” will be included at the bottom on each side that will link to the website. Discussed making magnets instead of business cards. Cierra will check into doing a mock-up of these and share at the next meeting.
The Commission looked at the new logo that was created. Joann moved that we accept this new logo as ours. Cindy seconded this. It was agreed unanimously that this will be our new logo.
The new logo will go on the new brochures and magnets as well as on the new shirts that will be printed soon. An anonymous donor is giving the money to have the shirts printed.
Discussed more about getting books for the community to be given out at the Twilight Festival in Versailles and other gatherings as possible. While looking at getting an account to purchase books, Cierra found that the Commission does not have a 501C3. Will look into this to see if we need our own, or if we are supposed to use one from the city/county. Once this information is known, Cierra will look into purchasing books that are bi-lingual in the grade levels mentioned in the previous meeting minutes.
NEW BUSINESS:
Tim mentioned that he was approached by someone that may have a case to bring before the Commission, but he has not heard back from this person about it. He will contact the person and see if he still wants to pursue it.
Cierra discussed the stepping down of the High School principal. She would like to discuss this further to see if it is something that would fall under the Commissions right to investigate it as discrimination. Two other members will look at the information she has and will talk later about it and what (if anything) needs to be done.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, August 4th, 7 pm at the M.U.S.T building in Versailles
Motion for adjournment was made by Cindy and seconded by Cierra. Motion passed.
Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Batts
Secretary
