Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission
MUST Building, Versailles, KY
Minutes of Meeting
June 9, 2022
The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission, held on 6/9/22, was called to order at 6:40 and opened with prayer by Commission Chairperson Tim Middleton.
Commission members present: Cindy Batts, Tim Middleton, Cierra Spalding, Elizabeth Turley, and Joann Muir
Commission members absent: Kyle Fannin, Jorge Espinoza, and Chris Wright
Comments/Questions from members of the public: none
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion was made by Cierra, and seconded by Libby, for the approval of the minutes of the 4/21/22 meeting with a change to the new Google Voice phone number. Motion passed.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer was unable to come to the meeting, so there was not a report made.
It is unsure if any of the local governments have made payments to the Commission at this time. Will follow up with the treasurer at next meeting.
OLD BUSINESS:
Discussed stopping payments on old Google Voice account which is no longer working. We will need to change our bank account information to do this. Kyle and Tim are still looking into this, but need proof that they are the chair and treasurer. Looking at past records, Cindy has been unable to find the minutes for either of these.
Cindy was able to get an answer from Dan Brown as to what he would like to have done with the Imagination Library money. He would like the Commission to take over this project. He gave Cindy the information about his contact and she will follow up on this soon. It was mentioned at the meeting that the Commission does not have enough money for the start up of this project (the first year) and it is a five year commitment.
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussed T-shirts for the Commissioners to wear to events. Talked about a logo and colors. Cierra will present a finalized design at our next meeting and will print the shirts after this.
Discussed printing business cards along with T-shirts to hand out at festivals and such in Woodford County. Once Cierra has the shirt design, she will be able to transfer this to business cards for us.
Will discuss work shifts for the Twilight Festival in Versailles at our next meeting.
Discussed possibly going to the Midway Fall Festival the weekend before the Twilight Festival. It was decided not to do this, but Cindy suggested that we ask about putting our business cards (once they are printed) at the information booth at the Midway Fall Festival so that there is still information being distributed. All of the Commissioners agreed that this was a good idea. Cindy will find out more information on how to do this.
Discussed bringing books to the Twilight Festival for young readers. It was decided to get several copies of a few titles that are geared toward being inclusive and age appropriate for the pre-K aged group, the K-5 aged group, and the middle school aged group. It was decided not to do high school at this time as the do not tend to come to the festival or frequent the Commission booth. Will re-evaluate after this festival for the future if needed.
Discussed how much to spend on the books. After looking at our previous treasurer’s report, it was decided that we would spend $1500 on getting books for the festival (and beyond as books last). Cierra will look into getting the books as she has a possible way to get them discounted. A member of the community told the Commission that he would donate 100 books (he helped to create the books he is donating).
Discussed board membership. It was noted that there is one member that has not been here in a while. Tim will attempt to contact this person to see if he is still interested. It was also noted that we are one Commissioner short. Everyone will try to think of someone that might be interested and appropriate.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday July 7, 2022 at the MUST building in Versailles.
Motion for adjournment was made by Cindy and seconded by Cierra. Motion passed.
Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Batts
Secretary
