Minutes of Meeting

February 4, 2021


The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Human Rights Commission, held on February 4, 2021 as a Zoom meeting, was called to order at 6:32 P. M. by Commission Chairperson Tim Middleton.

Commission members present: Cindy Batts, Jorge Espinoza, Kyle Fannin, Darlene Jackson, Tim Middleton, Joann Muir, Cierra Spaulding, and Elizabeth Turley.

Commission members absent: none.

Visitors: John C. K. Fisher.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion was made by Kyle Fannin, and seconded by Cindy Batts, for approval of the 2/4/2021 agenda as presented. Motion passed.

Comments/Questions from members of the public: none.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion was made by Kyle Fannin, and seconded by Darlene Jackson, for the approval of the minutes of the 10/1/2020 meeting as presented. Motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Report was distributed by treasurer Kyle Fannin. There is a balance in the checking account of $5,822.44, which includes the account for the Imagination Library in the amount of $3,211.46.

We have not gotten the money from Midway or Woodford County, but we have gotten the money from Versailles. Kyle will check on these and report back soon. Discussed option of separating the Imagination Library account from the Commission’s account. Kyle will talk with Dan Brown, who is heading up this initiative about this possibility.

Motion was made by Elizabeth Turley and seconded by Cindy Batts to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion passed.


OLD BUSINESS:

Introduced new and old members. John C. K. Fisher from the Kentucky Human Rights Commission talked with us about our roles and how best to fulfil them. Discussed sensitive issues regarding former complaint.

NEW BUSINESS:

NOMITATIONS: Darlene Jackson nominated Cindy Batts for secretary, Kyle Fannin seconded, and Cindy accepted. Motion passed. Kyle Fannin nominated Cierra Pickens for vice-chair, Joann Muir seconded, and Cierra accepted. Motion passed.

Discussed getting gift cards for commissioners who have left as a thank you for their service. Darlene Jackson moved that we get the cards for Mary Nehring, Mary Raglin, and Dan Brown. Elizabeth Turley seconded. Kyle Fannin will get these cards.

Discussed donating money to the scholarship fund that is usually funded by the Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, which had to be cancelled this year. Darlene made a motion to donate $500 to this fund, and Jorge Espinoza seconded. Kyle Fannin will send this money soon.

NEXT MEETING: March 11, 2021, 6:30 P. M. at Spark Community Cafe

Motion for adjournment was made by Elizabeth Turley and seconded by Darlene Jackson. Motion passed.
